Vail Valley Biking Tips Courtesy of the New Resident Spokes-Person at The Lodge at Vail, A RockResort
Spokes-Person Jenny Roussel offers her picks for the best local bike outings
Vail, CO – March 23, 2006 – Starting this spring at the Lodge at Vail, a RockResort, thrill-seekers and laid-back travelers alike can get rolling with tips from the new resident Spokes-Person, Jenny Roussel, who will be available to provide recommendations on the destination’s various biking excursions. An avid cyclist who lives on Vail Mountain and goes on summer biking excursions with her dog by her side, Jenny will personalize each guest’s cycle route from challenging mountain bike terrain to peaceful, scenic paved paths.
The Vail Valley is an ideal bike-friendly area with a variety of expedition options that cover every degree of difficulty and every biking preference. Whether it’s a family wanting to go on a picturesque bike tour of the area or extreme mountain bikers who crave a challenge, here are Jenny’s picks for the best of what The Vail Valley has to offer for riders of all levels:
Gitalong Road, a relaxing mountain meander that is ideal for families – Treat your bike to a chairlift ride to the top of Eagle Bahn Gondola and then sail down the 6-mile road covering the front side of the mountain. Parents can speed with their teenagers or leisurely descend with their younger child in a Tag-Along. This trip can take between 20 minutes to two hours depending on ability and daredevil streak.
Liondown, a direct downhill route for nature lovers - This trail crosses meadows with aspen groves and varies between wide single track and peaceful mountain roads. The roads have almost no vehicle traffic and are a great area to spot deer, porcupine, fox and squirrel. Take along a picnic lunch and dine al fresco!
Downhill trails for thrill-seekers - The most difficult way down Vail Mountain is to take one of the downhill bike trails. A specialized downhill bike is recommended, and proper body armor should be worn. Keep an eye out for the rock drops, stream crossings and other unexpected obstacles.
Glenwood Canyon bike path for a riverside ride – Pair up with local guides and take a paved bike path that follows the Colorado River through Glenwood Canyon (about a thirty minute drive from Vail Village). During the excursion, observe the herons and otters, and watch kayaks and rafts negotiate the Shoshone Rapids.
The Lodge at Vail, A RockResort renowned for relaxed luxury and impeccable personal service, is situated in the heart of Vail Village where guests enjoy shopping by day and renowned nightlife after dusk. Featuring mountain and village views, The Lodge’s 165 rooms and suites are reminiscent of a fine European chalet with accents of mahogany and marble. The intimate alpine resort offers two exceptional restaurants including The Wildflower, which is rated the number one restaurant in Vail by ZAGATSurvey, as well as a live entertainment bar.
